My specialty is in working with angry, challenging, or difficult children. Many factors contribute to a child’s challenging behaviors, and my goal is to help you determine the root cause and equip you with practical tools you can use at home to help improve your child’s anger, self-control, and behavior. At the same time, I work with the child to help them understand the way their brain works and how to navigate intense emotions in a healthier way. With children, I utilize a play-based approach, incorporating art-based and expressive activities along with traditional talk therapy.
My typical approach is to meet with the parents for the first session in order to gain history, background information, and an understanding of your goals for therapy. Then I meet with the child for 3 sessions in order to assess where they are functioning, how they view themselves in the world, their coping strategies, beliefs about themselves, as well as their goals for therapy. I develop a treatment plan targeted at the specific needs of your child and review this with you, the parent.
