Feeling stuck, discouraged, or defeated?
Truth is, we can’t choose what happens to us in life, but we CAN choose how we respond.
We are not victims to our emotions, thoughts, circumstances, traumas, or other hard things.
We can choose to respond with life-giving choices or not.
We can choose life.
Choosing life isn’t the same as toxic positivity and doesn’t mean pretending everything's fine.
It means making intentional decisions—often small and quiet, not dramatic—that move toward growth, healing, and hope.
Practical Ways to Choose Life
Here's some common patterns that I see:
🌧️ Depression
Instead of soaking in sad songs and isolating, acknowledge your emotions—but don’t stay stuck there. Add in worship music. Talk to someone. Move your body. Get outside. Consider talking to a counselor or doctor. It’s okay to need help.
😰 Anxiety
Cut back on caffeine, sugar, and screen time (especially social media). Add in protein-rich meals, time with supportive friends, fresh air. Memorize Scripture on fear and anxiety. Don’t let fear boss you around: If it tells you to hide—engage. If it says “don’t go”—go. Choose life.
😤 Bitterness
Bitterness drains life. We all know someone who’s held onto it too long—and how much it poisons them. Forgiveness isn’t just for the other person—it’s for you. Choose to begin the process of forgiveness.
😬 Hidden Sin or Struggles
Whatever you're hiding—self-harm, porn, an addiction—bring it into the light. Scripture tells us to confess to one another so we can be healed (James 5:16). Freedom lives in the light.
😓 Entangled Relationships
If someone is constantly draining your energy and peace, it’s okay to set boundaries and stick to them. Find life-giving friends and relationships.
You don’t have to stay stuck.
You have a choice.
And God is inviting you to choose life—so that you may truly live.
