Have you ever checked your horoscope just for fun? Maybe you’ve played a game at a slumber party—like Bloody Mary or “light as a feather, stiff as a board.” Or maybe you're drawn to crystals, psychics, or paranormal movies because, well… everyone else seems to be.
Here’s the thing: You’re not alone. I’ve been there too.
But what if I told you that some of these seemingly innocent practices could be affecting not just your mental health, but your spiritual health—in ways you never expected?
Let’s talk about it. Not from a place of judgment, but from a heart that truly wants to see you free, whole, and walking confidently in the light of Christ.
✨ The Car That Sparked the Conversation
This episode was inspired by a car I saw recently. It had two stickers on the back: One said “Blessed” with a heart and a cross. The other was a zodiac name.
That image stuck with me because it so perfectly represents a tension many Christian women feel: Wanting to follow Jesus wholeheartedly, but also unknowingly participating in things that open doors to spiritual confusion, oppression, or even fear.
🕳️ Are You Unknowingly Opening Spiritual Doors?
Let’s get honest about a few things that might be showing up in your life:
- Horoscopes
- Ouija boards
- Tarot cards / Palm readings
- Psychics or mediums
- Crystals or good luck charms
- Bloody Mary, "Light as a Feather, Stiff as a Board"
- Witchcraft or spells (even "cute" ones on TikTok)
- Yoga (particularly practices rooted in spiritual worship)
- Paranormal movies, horror games, or spirit-based entertainment
These may seem fun or innocent. But the truth is, they can subtly pull your heart and mind away from God—and toward fear, anxiety, & confusion.
🧠 The Mental Health Side
As a counselor, I’ve seen this first-hand.
Participation in many of these practices is rooted in fear and our desire for control. They offer a false sense of security by “revealing the future” or connecting with something beyond the natural world.
But studies (and personal experience) show that things like Ouija boards, astrology, or horror entertainment can lead to:
- Increased anxiety and panic
- Heightened fear and paranoia
- Confusion and difficulty discerning truth
- Obsessive thinking and difficulty sleeping
Sound familiar?
